Overview
Compact HPL and BWP-FR High-Density Board can both form part of a commercial washroom specification, but they are not the same material and their properties should never be mixed. Selection must be based on the exact grade, intended application, fixing method and supporting documentation.
What is Compact HPL?
Compact HPL is a dense, self-supporting laminate panel produced under heat and pressure. Suitable grades are widely used for restroom cubicles, partitions, lockers, worktops and other demanding interior surfaces. Depending on the approved grade, relevant characteristics may include moisture resistance, impact resistance, stain resistance, scratch resistance and ease of cleaning. Fire performance, hygiene claims and applicable standards vary by product grade. They should be published only when the certificate for the selected panel supports them.
What is BWP-FR High-Density Board?
BWP-FR High-Density Board combines a high-density fibre structure with boiling-water-proof bonding and fire-retardant characteristics in the applicable grade. Verified grade information may also cover high density, dimensional stability, termite and borer resistance, bonding strength and screw-holding performance. The term BWP-FR does not remove the need to check edge detailing, surface finish, fixing design and the intended wet-area condition. Product-specific technical documentation remains part of approval.
How should the two materials be compared?
Compare the following project requirements: direct or occasional water exposure panel edge and surface requirements impact and traffic level profile and hardware compatibility desired finish and architectural expression fire-performance requirement fixing, screw-holding and fabrication needs maintenance routine warranty documentation for the selected grade Avoid deciding solely by a single feature. A high-density board and a compact laminate behave differently during fabrication and installation, even when both are considered for washroom-related work.
What thickness should be used?
Typical panel thicknesses offered are 12 mm and 18 mm. Other suitable thicknesses are available depending on project requirement and approved specification. Locker components, doors, dividers and support panels may use different thicknesses when the approved product schedule requires them.
The correct specification approach
Name the material category, exact approved grade, thickness, finish, edge treatment, support system, hardware and application. Attach the applicable technical information rather than using a general material name as proof of every property. CTA: Send the intended application and site condition to CubiclePro for a material-and-system discussion before final specification.
